ARGENTARIO - the peninsula is connected to the mainland by two natural sandbanks spanning around 8 kms., and a causeway from Orbetello creating two lagoons . It is an exclusive and much sought-after area - many famous people own a villa here and it is extremely popular with tourists during the summer months. Properties tend to be quite expensive.

BASSA MAREMMA – the agricultural lowlands and slightly hilly area flanking the coastline. A very popular region where you can enjoy the peace of the countryside and easy access to the sea. Property prices tend to be cheaper north of the town of Grosseto.

ALTA MAREMMA – the mountainous zone further away from the coast, with many hilltop villages, and culminating in the winter ski-ing resort of Monte Amiata. Generally speaking, the further inland, the cheaper the properties will be.

Argentario and Maremma have everything to offer – colourful coastal resorts, fishing villages, pretty sailing ports, pinewood forests, rich agricultural land, vineyards. The countryside is dotted with picturesque towns and villages, often perched on hilltops. The coastline consists of long stretches of sandy beaches, with some rocky areas.

Parts of the land have been maintained in their original state as wildlife parks, the largest being the Maremma Nature Reserve which stretches for 9,000 hectares from Principina to Talamone and includes ragged hills, pine forests, wetlands and plains, beaches to the north and splendid cliffs to the south. The area was once one of the centres of Etruscan civilization and there are many sites where important Etruscan ruins can be seen.
